An oil mist collector—also known as an oil mist purifier, oil mist separator, or oil mist machine—is an environmentally friendly device installed on various types of machine tools, such as CNC machining centers, electrical discharge machines, die-casting machines, and CNC lathes. It is designed to collect and purify pollutants—including oil mist, water mist, and dust—that are generated during CNC machining processes.
Principle of the electrostatic oil mist collector: As oil mist passes through the electrostatic oil mist collector, a high-voltage electric field generated within the device separates the oil mist and charges the oil mist particles in the flue gas. Under the influence of the strong electric field force, these charged oil mist particles deposit onto the oil collection plates. The oil removal process relies on the direct action of electrostatic forces on the oil particles, enabling highly efficient capture of oil mist from the flue gas. Simply put, when oil mist flows through the oil mist duct, it first enters a pre-treatment layer where the flue gas is分流ed and separated. After separation, the evenly distributed flue gas flows uniformly across the entire electrode plate layer, simultaneously knocking off some of the larger oil droplets. The corona discharge process on the electrode plates occurs between the energized high-voltage electrode and the grounded electrode. Within the space between these electrodes, a high-concentration of gas ions is formed. As the oil-mist-laden airflow passes through this space, within a few milliseconds, the oil mist particles become charged by colliding with and capturing gas ions. Under the influence of the electric field force, the oil mist particles are then adsorbed onto the oil collection plates.
Now that we’ve learned how oil mist collectors work and understand their operational principles, what other features do these devices have? And why are they so popular in the market? Here, we’ll introduce you to the key features of oil mist collectors, helping you gain a deeper understanding of them.
1. The oil mist collector employs a multi-stage, multi-layer filtration principle. The first-stage filter captures oil mist particles larger than 10 μm; the second-stage filter captures oil mist particles larger than 2 μm; and the third-stage filter captures oil mist particles larger than 0.3 μm. Optionally, a high-efficiency filter can be installed at the rear end to primarily capture fumes generated during the machining process.
2. The exterior paintwork is produced using the CNC machining center sheet-metal fabrication process and features a powder-coating finish. It’s durable, easy to clean, and resistant to fading or peeling.
3. The operation and cleaning indicator is an innovative product. When the oil mist collector is running, the red ball floats upward until it adheres to the top; when the device is turned off, the red ball sinks down to the bottom. After the collector has been in operation for a certain period, the filter cotton will become saturated with oil mist impurities. Once the suction power of the oil mist collector drops to 70%, the red ball will sink to the bottom, signaling that the filter cotton needs to be cleaned.
4. The vibration accuracy of the oil mist collector directly affects the qualification rate of parts produced during CNC machining. All units undergo full inspection, and data such as air flow measurement, vibration accuracy, current and voltage, noise levels, and equipment serial numbers are recorded.
5. The motor’s stability is a critical component of the entire equipment. The accompanying motor is manufactured by a renowned group company, and all its specifications have undergone rigorous testing. It features an insulation class of B and an corrosion protection rating of IP55. The product’s return-to-service rate is only 0.5%. The motor comes with an 18-month warranty.
6. All product components are manufactured using die stamping.
7. Considering the lifespan of the filter cotton, its use will increase the user’s operating costs. The filter cotton used has a lifespan of 2 to 3 years and can be continuously cleaned and reused during this period.
8. Operability: The filter cotton cleaning procedure is extremely simple. Just follow the cleaning operation manual to complete it.
